Parisian excellence takes center stage in March

One is a master of gold leaf, the other of impeccable porcelain. And over here, a gallery exhibits some of the greatest names in the history of design. Strolling through Maison&Objet In The City means taking an exceptional tour of the city and the very best it has produced in decor and design, and will continue to produce. On the side of venerable tradition, those who love a great story will find veritable treasures of fine craftsmanship. The EMBLEM workshops, for example, bring together four ancestral fine-art makers on rue de Grenelle, from cabinetmakers Taillardat and Craman-Lagarde, to gilder Vernaz et filles, and enamel specialist Les Emaux de Longwy. For metalwork, head over to Tisserant, bronze craft specialists, or Adam Steiner, for more contemporary pieces. In the fairytale setting of Féau, antique woodwork specialist, you can see, live and in person, furniture pieces from star designers that are sold online by The Invisible collection.

Paris abounds in star designers and decorators. Maison&Objet In The City gives you the chance to meet them in their own showrooms. Charles Zana, India Mahdavi, Charles Tassin, Pierre Gonalons, Chahan Minassian, Christophe Delcourt, Gilles et Boissier, Charlotte Biltgen, Stéphanie Coutas, and more…At Bismut & Bismut, materials are made majestic, from the Sweet Copper sofa, with its shaped copper back, to the 2+1 table, in mirror-like polished steel…All of them bring to life the luxurious art of bespoke that is a signature element of French style. Atelier Tortil, which works with artisans to design interiors that are like works of art, is also an example of this. 

Traveling around Paris also means finding material for inspiration: flooring from Parqueterie nouvelle, floor and wall coverings from Cosentino, ceramic tiles made in Italy from Marazzi, a selection of materials and furnishings at Annie Pate, porcelain decorative elements at Atelier Monochrome, sculpted lighting at Art et Floritude or Kaia Lighting, panoramic decorative scenes inspired by the 19th century at Ananbô, hand-painted wallpaper from Fromental exhibited at Galerie Vauclair or from new firm Illustre. Britop lighting focuses on a sustainable, made-in-Europe approach, using only recycled or recyclable materials, such as wood, steel, jute, and linen… 

The French capital loves cultural blends. Céline Wright designs lighting in Japanese washi paper. Vald Agency represents Danish design makers past and present: FDB Mobler, Please wait to be seated, and Boyhood. La Manufacture, under the creative direction of Luca Nichetto, connects and makes items for big names from all over the world. Paolo Castelli represents the Italian art of living, major names in design, and bespoke designs for residences and yachts. But Paris is also a whole new generation of design makers setting the tone for the contemporary French touch: Alki, from the Basque Country, Made In Design, The Socialite Family, and stone furniture from Livingstone. Théorème éditions will be exhibiting new designers whose every creation tells a story so poetically. Maison Fragile, a new design house rooted in the Limoges porcelain-making tradition, will unveil a new collection under the theme of “inclusion”, which promises to inspire other designs that meet consumers’ new desires. They have also asked Ukrainian artisans to work for them, some of whom have just arrived in France, under the dramatic circumstances we’re now all familiar with. Whomever said that Paris would always just be Paris?
